My Story & Art
I'm a contemporary artist living and working from my home studio at Kaka Point on the southern coast of New Zealand.. I have strong connections to the Clutha District having spent my life in the area. In my early 40's I was inspired to pursue an art career while administering adult education. Art became my passion. The early years of my practice were filled with a desire to learn, experiment and express my subject matter in a unique personal way.
My connection to the natural environment and sense of place constantly drives my art. Local beaches, native bush and National Parks within close proximity provide open spaces for walking, observation and contemplation. Connections to places can be varied and layered and that is where the collage elements in my art help with that expression. Collage resources include vintage books, maps, wallpapers, postage stamps and found ephemera that connect to memories and histories long past.
I work mostly in acrylics, inks and mixed media collage. I love to combine collage papers with paint to infuse colour, texture and structure into the painting. Each work is finished with a UV protective varnish ensuring longevity of the pieces.
It is my hope that my art makes a connection to a place or time that holds a special memory for you.
